Making a photo album can sometimes feel like an impossible task. It might be something you’ve always meant to get around to but never quite found the time for and now you’ve got hundreds of pictures and you don’t know where to start.
So, how do you create a photobook? What can you do to make it that little bit different and better than the photo gallery on your phone? Well, keep reading to find out our top tips for creating the perfect personalised photo book.
- Decide what your photo book is going to be about
- Organise your photos
- Select your favourite photos
- Pick a theme
- Tell a story
Decide what your photo book is going to be about
Before you begin selecting your photos, you need to decide what your photo book is going to be about. To make the album truly personalised you need to consider who the photo book is for and what memories with/ of them you want to curate.
Some popular ideas are:
- Wedding photo albums
- Baby photo books
- Maternity albums
- Family memory books
- Holiday photo albums
Organise your photos
After you’ve decided what you want your photo book to be about, you need to decide what pictures you want to include. In order to do that effectively, you’re going to need to get organised.
Most people have old photographs lying about everywhere. Digital photos are often lost amongst the thousands of pictures stored on your iCloud or physical old photographs are hidden away in shoeboxes up the loft. No matter where they are, we recommend hunting them down and organising them into some sort of order – you don’t want to miss any hidden gems!
Select your favourite photos
Once your photos are organised, you can begin to select which ones you want to include in your album.
No matter what type of photo book you’re creating, whether it’s a wedding album or a family memory book, you want to select a good mix of photos. This doesn’t simply mean including both portrait and landscape, it means including a mix of both posed and candid photos too.
Including the photos that they didn’t know you were taking, the funny and even sometimes embarrassing ones, are what will transform the photo book from one that a stranger could make, to one that is truly personal.
Pick a theme
The next step is to pick a theme. This can help transform your album from simply a series of photos to something that is completely unique. For example, if it’s a holiday photo book, you could pick a tropical beach theme – add sunny backgrounds and beach stickers to help make your album stand out.
At Transfermagic we can help take your photo book one step further by adding music and typography with our digital photo album service.
Tell a story
Last but not least, organise your photo book in a way that tells a story. The easiest way to do this is in chronological order. Perhaps you’re giving the photo book as a present to your child on their 18th birthday, in this case, start the album with baby photos and then carry on to the present day.
However, don’t feel you need to play by the rules. Remember, this is a personalised photo book, and these are your memories, so tell the story that feels right to you.
